BLACK HISTORY MONTH

“We must never forget that Black History is American History.

The achievements of African Americans have contributed to our nation’s greatness.”

Yvette Clarke

Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month. This month honors African American people’s rich range of experiences, struggles and achievements throughout history.

Peace & Greetings,

Happy Super Bowl Sunday … the food, the commercials, the halftime show and, of course, the game! As you know, the Super Bowl might as well be a national holiday as it is traditionally marked by parties and gatherings. However, this year experts warn us that COVID spread comes from these kind of events where asymptomatic people let their guard down, take off their masks to eat and drink and unknowingly spread the virus. I ask that you celebrate responsibly cognizant that the U.S. saw a spike in COVID + cases after each of the recent holidays. Hopefully, better days are ahead, but to get there requires still more sacrifices on our part. Be careful … be safe!

EVENING REFLECTION & PRAYER

On leaving the synagogue he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother- in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. (Mark 1:30-31).

Let us pray,

Keep your family safe, O Lord, with unfailing care, that, relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace, they may be defended always by your protection. Through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Have a great week (and let’s go Chiefs!) Fr. Glen, Chaplain

WINTER FEST 2021

With Storm Cooper dumping over 12” of freshly fallen snow earlier in the week, the scenic backdrop was perfect for this year’s Winter Fest.

Thursday’s virtual activities were full of surprises and prizes. Special guests stopped by to add to the virtual festivities. Thomas Pauloz, 2020 class president, stopped into our virtual bingo with some motivational advice and Byron Jones, ’10, defensive back for the Miami Dolphins stopped into our virtual events with an impromptu Q&A with our students. We ended the evening with a competitive round of bingo and three winners: Dylan Bird, Mia Gonzalez and Charlie Hergott.

Friday’s activities included building snowmen, competitive outdoor games of kickball, corn hole, can jam and street hockey. We had a thrilling 3-point shootout, vintage video games and a heated chess competition that will be continued this week. We wrapped up the weekend with an intense House Challenge Quiz Bowl:

1st Place – Philippians House 2nd Place – Galatians House 3rd –Thessalonians House

ST. PAUL WINTER SPORTS – FAN POLICY

Consistent with the fall season, we will begin the season with NO FANS (recommendation of the CIAC although leaving the final decision to the respective leagues) allowed at our home games. The NVL has established a league policy restricting visiting fans from any schools. The focus of our Athletic Department will be managing COVID-19 mitigation protocols for St. Paul and visiting student athletes in an effort to create the safest possible environment. After the first few games, we will re-evaluate our fan policy and determine if it is prudent to allow family members to attend home games on a limited basis. Hopefully, we’re able to make that happen. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

A reminder that all levels of our home basketball games will be streamed live (and taped for later viewing) via the NFHS Network. Information for registering for the Network can be found in the Athletic Section of the school website. All NVL schools are working on various applications to live stream all basketball

games. That information will be disseminated to the appropriate teams before their away games. We will also designate an area on the school website to access that information. The boys swim team co-op will also be live streaming home contests, details for that will be shared by the swim team coaching staff.

Please contact Mr. Dennehy, ddennehy@spchs.com, with any questions regarding Winter Sports.
