As noted by the National Museum of African American History & Culture, Juneteenth is a time to celebrate, to gather as a family, to reflect on the past and look to the future. Within the African American community, Juneteenth is known as the second “Independence Day”.
It is a holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, and more generally the emancipation of African American slaves throughout the Confederate South. Emancipation did not finally come until General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas and issued General Order No. 3, on June 19, almost two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 -- statement by the Archdiocese of Baltimore '20

Leadership Transition Announcement:
It’s bittersweet to announce that after sixteen years as President/Chief Administrator, Mr. Cary Dupont will begin to transition out of his leadership role this summer. Mr. Dupont says, “As a proud alum, serving to the best of my ability, it has been a generous gift from God providing memorable moments of inspiration, greatness and gratitude far beyond what I originally expected when I accepted this position in July 2008 never mind ever envisioned when I graduated myself from here in June 1972.” Mr. Dupont will serve part-time as President Emeritus assisting with the transition to our new President/Chief Administrator.
We are proud to announce that Archbishop Christopher J. Coyne has appointed Mr. James Cooper as the next President/Chief Administrator of St. Paul Catholic High School effective July 1, 2024.
