A NEW NAME FOR OUR FALCON NEWS THE FALCON FLYER! | As an alum, past parent, current parent, grandparent, or friend of St. Paul, we thank you for being a part of our vision "to be a truly great Catholic high school". Here you will find St. Paul news you can use - delivered to you once a month during the school year. Enjoy reading about all the great things happening at St. Paul! | President's Message “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” – Isaiah 9:2 It has always seemed appropriate that as we approach the shortest day of daylight each December, we take a pause from the busyness of our lives to celebrate the birth of our Lord. What a gift in our Christian life! Shortly thereafter we watch the days start to grow longer as the darkness is conquered by the light. At St. Paul we try to find the balance between the modern commercialism of Christmas: homeroom door decorating, ugly sweaters, hot cocoa and Christmas movies with the moments of Advent preparation, from the Mass for the Feast of Immaculate Conception to opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation and an evening of Advent prayer and reflection. These preparations culminate in our annual Christmas Mass for the St. Paul community before teachers and students depart for a long and well-deserved Christmas break. This Christmas season, my wish for each member of the St. Paul community is that you find a moment to reflect on all the gifts in your life, not only the material, but more importantly the gift of the love of family and friends and the gift of our shared Christian faith. I pray that each one of you may experience the true spirit of Christmas and take the time to invite the Christ child into your life just as Mary and Joseph did in that cold, dark manager many Christmas nights ago. Venite Adoremus! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year, James J. Cooper President | Faith Features Thank you to Father Daniel and Mr. Duffany for organizing this sacrament of reconciliation this week. Christ is truly the reason for the season and for St. Paul Catholic High School! Tuesday, we had eight priests (one not pictured here) to offer the sacrament of reconciliation to students and faculty. Eight priests busy for an entire hour - waiting lines for confession!! Thank you for coming to St. Paul. Christ is alive in our school. First, thank you to the Religion Department for doing such a great job preparing the students for the sacrament! There were multiple comments from the priests about how ready the students were, how open, honest, and vulnerable! Second, thank you to the entire faculty and staff! Without your support and encouragement, we would not have had over 25% of the student body turn out for the sacrament! Thank you for your willingness to support the sacramental life here at St. Paul and for understanding the particular needs of our students in this regard. | | Forensics Detective Today we are grateful for Bristol Police Department's Detective Cote for taking time out of his day to teach the importance of evidence collection and preservation to St Paul Catholic High School forensic science classes. Detective Cote is a wealth of knowledge and has been a sworn officer (in various ranks) for over 35 years! The students had a great time and were able to tour the evidence collection van. | Robotics After months of hard work, dedication, and many hours spent tinkering, programming, and problem-solving, our robotics class is thrilled to showcase our latest creation: a fully functional robot ready to tackle the 2024-2025 FIRST Tech Challenge state competition! The journey to this remarkable moment has been filled with collaboration and creativity. Each student brought unique skills and ideas to the table, fostering an environment where innovation could thrive. From brainstorming sessions that sparked our initial concepts to the detailed design and programming phases, every step has been a testament to their commitment to learning and teamwork. Our robot embodies the culmination of our efforts. Equipped with advanced sensors, precise motors, and a user-friendly interface, it is designed to navigate all obstacles and complete challenging tasks in the competition arena. We are confident in its capabilities and we wish our team the best for the future competitions . | | | Performing Arts Last week our Performing Arts group traveled to NYC to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway! An amazing time had by all (albeit a little wet from the rain)! | Brown Bag Lunch The School Counseling Department hosts our Brown Bag Lunch career panel series as a great career exploration option for our students. They hear about careers they may be interested in from a panel discussing their job and the path to their career, giving our students an overview of what they do and finish with a Q&A from students. Thank you! Your generosity plays a huge part in why it's easy to say that there is something greater here. Each day our school community works diligently to continue to be a truly great Catholic high school, nourishing the minds, hearts, and spirits of our students. We are hopeful that they will grow and flourish into morally sound young adults who are prepared to lead the way with integrity, compassion, purpose, and virtue. If you haven't already, we'd like to invite you to prayerfully consider an end-of-year gift to our Annual Falcon Fund. No matter the size, it is an investment in our young people, helping us continue to provide them with exceptional programming that nurtures the whole person. We are so grateful for all that our community does for St. Paul, and we thank you for considering a gift to the Annual Falcon Fund. May your Advent and Christmas be filled with God’s peace, joy, and abundant blessings.
